¡¡¡¡
¡¡¡¡ In1986, the Department of Tourism of Kunming College was founded.
It was the earliest tourism department in colleges and universities
of the three provinces in Southwest China. Now the department has
developed 9 majors, including Tour Guide,Hotel Management,Scenic |
Attractions Management, Tourism Management,
Tourism English, Travel Agencies Management, Culinary Technology and
Nutrition, and Business English, the last four ones are unique majors
established in Yunnan¡¯s colleges and universities. The major of Tour
Guide was designed to demonstrate the high quality requirements of
the national educational reform executed by the Educational Department
of China. The tour guide course unit has been officially recognised
in December, 2002, as an ¡®essential¡¯ (high-quality) course for use
at nationa level.
¡¡¡¡The department has accumulated rich competencies in teaching and
scientific research. Over 100 articles are published, more than 30
bookes and text-books compiled and cooperatively compiled by the teaching
staff are published, and over 50 professional research projects are
finished. Some serial teaching materials such as Hotel Management,
Tourist Service Psychics, Hotel Marketing, Travel agency Operation
and Management have been well accepted by the society and applied
in many colleges and departments of tourism.
¡¡¡¡In 1993, we have established a travel agency as practice base for
Tour Guide students on campus, and other bases out of school are also
established by signing contracts with travel agencies, e.g. Yunnan
Tobacco International Travel Agency, Kunming Railway International
Travel Agency, and the Southern International Travel Agency of Yunnan,
etc. for majors of Tour Guide and Travel agency Management, and we
have another practice base owned by ourselves beside Dianchi Lake
for the Hotel Management majors.
¡¡¡¡We have an exchanged programme with Thailand Rajabhat Institute
Dhonburi since 1998, and four groups of Hotel Management students
have completed their practice in five-star holiday hotels of Thailand.
Meanwhile, we have other extensive exchange activities among teachers
and students between some universities and colleges in Thailand, Germany
and Australia.
¡¡¡¡The department is very well equiped and has important influence
in the society. Since it was founded 10 years ago, it has cultivated
more than 2000 professionals for Yunnan¡¯s tourist industry, most of
which have become backbones of the industry. Now the department has
1156 students and a staff of 103 teachers and clercks. The department
has also employed 10 general managers from famous scenic attractions,
hotels and travel agencies as guest teachers, among them, 4 are senior
tour guides. Our department is advantageous in teaching facilities,
including 5 teaching offices: Tour Guide, Hotel Management, Tour English,
Basic English and Cuisine; 8 laboratories: a travel agency, a tour
guide lab, a bar, a kitchen, a restaurant (both Chinese and Western),
a guest room lab, a gym, and a sound lab.
